Invitation to pre-conference activities for WikiConference India 2026

Dear Wikimedia contributors,

As the Wikiconference India 2026 draws nearer, the excitement is soaring as well! We are sending this message to inform you that two pre-conference activities are being held as a part of this meetup. The Wiki Loves Villages campaign 2026 starts on 15th August 2026, so get ready to contribute! This initiative aims to expand and enhance content and media about villages across all Wikimedia projects, creating a comprehensive, open-access knowledge base. Campaign Focus: A. Expand Wikipedia articles about Villages in India in multiple languages B. Improve content quality with citations, images, and comprehensive information C. Populate Wikimedia Commons with freely licensed media about a village D. Enrich Wikidata with structured information about Village-related topics We invite you to contribute by writing new articles, enhancing existing ones, uploading media, or organizing data on Wikidata. Whether you're an experienced editor or new to Wikimedia, your participation matters. For more information and to get involved, visit the campaign page ([1](https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Village_2026)) on your preferred Wikimedia project.

Another way to contribute to a pre-conference activity is the innovative Wiki Loves Medicinal Plants 2026- it is a photography campaign hosted by WikiConference India 2026. The activity already started on 1st August and ends on 31st August 2026, so gear up to document local medicinal knowledge and fill the knowledge gaps. This initiative aims to expand and enhance freely licensed images and other media of medicinal plants in and around our surroundings. Campaign Focus: A. Add freely licensed images of medicinal plants. B. Improve description of existing medicinal plants. C. Improve depictions of images. D. Improve wikidata items. We invite you to contribute by adding new photos, videos or enhancing existing ones. Whether you're an experienced editor or new to Wikimedia, your participation matters.
